Interactive Whiteboard Charts. Russian Language. Parts of Speech. Morphology of Modern Russian Language and Speech Standards.

Interactive whiteboard charts enable the teacher to present the content material with the utmost visibility, to check its acquisition by students quickly and efficiently, to use problem-exploration, creative and differential educational methods, as well as encourage interest in studying the subject.

Features of the program

  • Content material corresponds to the basic and profound level of the pupils’ academic background.
  • High level of visualization, well thought out design and simplicity of presentation reflect the main principles of education.
  • Inclusion and exclusion of text entries, captions, answers to grammatical problems, etc. (Hide mode) provides for differential instruction.
  • A possibility to make “hand-written” notes, captions and drawings on top of the material studied (Draw tool) while changing the brightness of the picture or hiding it completely allows for a better practical acquisition of the educational material.
  • Basic synopses of charts enable the teacher to quickly prepare testing materials and print hand-outs.
  • Convenient navigation.
  • Fast fetching of this or that element to the screen.

This electronic learning aid employs the principle of systematic and consistent presentation which implies sequential and structured knowledge acquisition. All the chart materials are well-structured, logically chunked and presented in diagrams and tables. Independent and service parts of speech are analyzed. Morphological systems are examined in their connection with other branches of linguistics: vocabulary, word formation, morphemics, orthography, syntax, punctuation, and orthoepy.

The learning aid features material for observation and practical exercises, especially proverbs, sayings and aphorisms that will broaden pupils’ horizons and enrich their knowledge of philosophical and ethical thought of the mankind, and thus promote personality formation. Practical application of such a didactic material will encourage the development of rational thinking and vocabulary expansion, it will teach pupils to use the expressive means of language and help them to write compositions.

Independent and service parts of speech are presented in the following uniform structure: general grammatical function, morphological characteristics, syntactic functions, usage in speech. Each topic is accompanied by didactic materials for training and knowledge consolidation. All the material is presented in diagrams and tables.

Each chart is accompanied by the basic synopsis of the topic. There are two kinds of basic synopses:

  • The first one is a plan of the morphological analysis of the word;
  • The second one is the plan of the answer regarding the part of speech.
  • Any synopsis can be printed out.

The Draw tool, which is available in each presentation mode, will become an irreplaceable means of implementing problem-based and hands-on education. This tool allows one to: Mark parts of words, add suffixes and inflexional endings (when checking the knowledge of word formation, morphemics, orthography); write words and grammatical structures on the whiteboard upon the teacher’s request; cross out wrong answers to morphological problems; supplement tables with pupils’ own examples (while consolidating acquired knowledge), analyze sentence syntax.

It can help the teacher to:

  • accompany her/his explanation of the new material with graphic commentaries, thus promoting its more effective acquisition;
  • conduct various types of tests which correspond to the pupils’ academic level.

To draw pupils’ attention to a certain linguistic object, the teacher may use a Magnifying Glass tool which magnifies a selected part of a diagram, table or text on the screen. A reduced image of the chart page is shown in the bottom right corner of the screen.

All these, as well as many other features provide the teacher with an opportunity both to expand the range of her/his teaching methods and modes, and to diversify pupils’ activities.

Application:

  • Using charts as the source of information and an aid for knowledge consolidation and testing.
  • Creative activities of pupils due to the chart’s interactive features and its content.
  • Testing students with the help of the “Hide mode” and the “Draw Tool” and Magnifying Glass tools in accordance with a pupil’s level of knowledge.
  • Individual approach to learning.
  • Teacher’s lesson preparation proceeding from didactic goals: from just reviewing the textual and visual information to a thorough research of certain topics.

The series of charts has been designed on the basis of a substantial and constructive conception, which determines the appearance of the learning aid product program and the method of its application. However, the efficiency of the interactive electronic learning aid product during the lesson depends on the teacher’s imagination, experience and her/his own methodological groundwork.

Using interactive charts during the lesson provides the teacher with an opportunity to encourage pupils’ activity and interest, to conduct a substantial dialog that would promote better acquisition of the studied material, to organize teaching in front of class, group and individual learning activities and to apply a differential instruction approach.

Interactive charts for learning Russian include a CD with the program and a User’s Manual for educational institutions, which includes elaborate recommendations on how to use the program while working with an interactive whiteboard, as well as sample lessons.
